From Kuala Lumpur to London. At home everywhere.
Over a decade ago, I left Kuala Lumpur for London to study law, never imagining that the journey would lead me into hospitality, storytelling and food.
Over the years, I've worked with hotels, restaurants and lifestyle brands, shaping their identity through brand positioning, guest experience and creative direction. Along the way, I discovered a love for recipe writing, travel, hosting supper clubs and creating spaces where people feel connected. That work has led to collaborations and features in publications including The New York Times, Vanity Fair and Condé Nast titles.
My work began with my Malay heritage, but it has always been about something wider: food as memory, cooking as care, and the table as a place for community, belonging and connection.
It began in my grandmother's kitchen, where I watched her cook without recipes, measuring by instinct rather than scales. Those moments taught me that food is never just about what we eat. It is about the people around the table, the stories we share and the traditions we pass from one generation to the next.
The Malay Cook began as a way of preserving family recipes and stories that might otherwise have been forgotten. Over time, it grew into something much broader—a cookbook, recipe writing, hosted gatherings, creative partnerships and an ongoing exploration of how food shapes culture, identity and the way we connect with one another.
Today, my work moves between writing, hospitality and brand curation. Whether I'm developing a menu, curating a supper club, helping a hotel define its identity or creating a recipe, I'm always exploring the same idea: how thoughtful experiences can bring people together and leave a lasting impression.
I believe the strongest experiences are built through emotion, curiosity and a genuine sense of place. Through my work, I hope to celebrate the richness of culture, encourage people to gather more often, and remind us that some of life's most meaningful conversations begin around a table.
